Connecting Trak to ChatGPT

Trak's connector works with ChatGPT too, since it's built on the MCP protocol. Once connected, you can ask ChatGPT questions about your jobs, quotes, invoices, and schedules, or get it to draft quotes, log expenses, close tasks, upload photos to jobs, and more, all in plain English.

The setup's a bit different to Claude. Here's how.

Using Claude instead of ChatGPT? The setup's a bit different.

Setting it up

  1. In Trak: Company Settings → Data Management → API Settings. Copy your API v2 Auth Key. No key yet? Generate one there.
  2. In ChatGPT: go to Settings → Security and Log In, and turn on Developer mode.
  3. Open Plugins and click the + in the top right. This opens the New Plugin form.
  4. Under Name, type Trak. Icon and Description are both optional, skip them if you like.
  5. Under Connection, leave it set to Server URL and paste this into the field, swapping in your key for YOUR_KEY    :
    https://mcp.trak.co/u/YOUR_KEY/mcp
  1. Set Authentication  to No Auth. Your key's already built into the URL, so there's nothing to add here.
  2. Tick I understand and want to continue. ChatGPT shows this warning on every custom MCP server, not just Trak's, since it hasn't reviewed it the way it would a directory-listed connector.
  3. Click Create.

That's it. From any ChatGPT conversation you can now ask things like "what's on the calendar this week?" or "draft a quote for the Fitzroy job."

Tip: not sure where to start? Type @Trak    , then ask "List available tools" to see everything the connector can do.

On the API key. It's yours, and everything the connector does happens as you. Revoke or rotate the key in Trak and the connector stops working until you paste in the new URL.

On the risk warning. That message is OpenAI's standard caution for any custom connector outside its directory, not a flag on Trak specifically. Trak's own safety notes, on permissions, confirmations, and what's logged, are in the Connecting Trak to Claude guide and apply here too.

On confirmations. Same as Claude: ChatGPT checks with you before anything that changes data in Trak (writes, deletes). Nothing gets created, edited, or deleted without you saying yes first.

On availability. Developer mode and Plugins are available on all ChatGPT plans, so you don't need a paid tier just to connect Trak.

Everything else works the same

What you can ask, the full tool list, and how the connector handles safety, permissions, and privacy don't change based on which assistant you use. For all of that, see Connecting Trak to Claude, it covers questions, financial analysis, creating and editing records, photos and files, the full tool catalogue, and troubleshooting.
